FAQs
Insulated double glazing glass windows are highly energy efficient, hermetically sealed units. However, with a broken or cracked pane, the hermetic seal around the spacers that separate the two panes can fail, allowing moisture to enter and causing a cloudy or misty effect in the glass. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to remove the entire glass unit and install a replacement without taking out the window frame.
Repair or Replace?
Do you need to replace a broken pane in a triple glazing or double glazing unit? It is possible in very rare cases, but generally not recommended. This is because the units are vacuum hermetically sealed in the workshop and are unlikely to maintain the same specifications as when they were new.
Also, you will be left with hole in your window for a short period. This is due to the broken unit having to be taken away to the workshop to be repaired and resealed.
The cost of repairing broken glass panes has dropped significantly since double glazing emerged, making low cost glass repair accessible for most homeowners and businesses. Using the services of our expert glazier to fix a broken window can range from an affordable £50 to over £200, depending on the size and type of glass needed. This price typically includes both installation fees and the cost of the replacement glass, if applicable.
While you might consider attempting the repair yourself, it’s important to remember that you’ll need specialised glazier tools and the necessary skills to complete what may appear to be a simple task, but is actually quite complex. Mistakes can cause an injury and end up costing more than hiring a professional to do the job right the first time.
