Low Emissivity Glass Cut To Size

Known as Pilkington K offering better efficiency.

Low emissivity glass, which is also referred to low-E glazing, uses a special coating which increases energy efficiency. This coating does this by reducing the amount of heat escaping through the glass to the outside.

Low-E glass also provides the benefit of limiting the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that passes through the glass, and has little impact on the amount of visible light that comes in through the glass. The benefits are the low risk of fade damage to your furniture and materials’ colours due to overexposure to ultraviolet rays, and cooler temperature in the summer, since the incoming infrared light is reduced, while also maintaining warm temperatures in the winter due to the reduction of heat that can escape through the glass.

The energy efficiency of low emissivity glazing makes this a suitable option to reduce costs of energy. This is because less fuel is consumed to maintain heat in the home, which in turn lowers the price you have to pay for heating.

FAQs

Low-E glass is a secure and energy efficient option for double glazing windows. It features a thin coating that minimises the amount of infrared and ultraviolet light passing through the glass while allowing visible light to enter. This helps reduce heat loss in winter and also heat gain in summer. As a result it improves energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

In terms of security, low emissivity glazing offers the same level of strength and durability as standard glass, but security as a whole can be enhanced when combined with laminated or toughened glass options, making it more resistant to impacts.

However, it’s important to note that glass with low emissivity alone is not a dedicated security feature; combining it with other security measures, such as multi locks and reinforced framing, is essential for full protection.

Low emissivity glazing requires minimal maintenance, similar to regular glass. Its special coating is designed to be durable and long lasting, so it doesn’t need any special routine. To maintain its energy efficiency and clarity, simply clean the glass with a soft microfibre cloth, water, and a mild detergent or glass cleaner. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the coating.

Glass with low emissivity can be installed in most types of windows, including those in residential and commercial buildings. It is compatible with various window styles, such as casement, sliding, and tilt and turn windows. Also, low-E glass works well in both single pane and multi pane configurations. However, for optimal insulation it is better when used in double or triple glazed windows.
