FAQs
Laminated glass starts at 6.4mm thick and is the most common size used in many applications including shopfronts. Laminate can also be specified in 8.8mm, 10.8mm and 12.8mm. Other thickness may be available to meet requirements upon request.
This type of glazing comprises of 2 clear 3mm glass panes bonded together with a PVB layer. This interlayer is 0.4mm thick and when you add the layers together, it totals to 6.4mm.
Toughened glass has a slightly higher break point than laminate glass. Nevertheless, when it breaks it shatters into small pieces and it is much easier to gain access.
However, a broken laminated glazing is held together by the PVB layer and does not simply fall to the floor. This offers a better security option against intruders due to its ability to provide a prolonged shield.
