FAQs
Laminated glass units generally do not require extra maintenance compared to standard glass. They are durable and designed for long term use, thanks to the interlayer between the glass layers that enhances safety and soundproofing. Routine cleaning with non-abrasive glass cleaners is typically sufficient.
However, if the edges of the laminate are exposed to moisture or chemicals, the interlayer can degrade over time, leading to delamination. To avoid this, ensure proper installation and sealant use. Regular inspections for chips, cracks, or sealant failure can help maintain their longevity without requiring much additional effort.
Our safety laminated glass units can be installed in most window types, including uPVC and aluminium frames. Due to their enhanced safety, durability, and soundproofing properties, laminated glass is ideal for windows in high traffic, high risk, or noise sensitive areas.
Versatile Use Of Safety Glass
These safety glass are seen in schools, hospitals, storefronts, and homes near busy roads. Our fitters often install them in residential properties as a premium option for extra security.
However, laminated glass is heavier than standard glass, so window frames must be sturdy enough to support it, and any sash openers have reinforced hinges to support the added weight. While suitable for nearly any window, professional assessment by our fitting team is recommended to ensure compatibility with specific frames and environments for optimal performance and safety.
Laminated glazing, although is thicker, looks almost identical to standard glass, with no noticeable visual differences for most applications. It is made by bonding two or more layers of glass with an interlayer, often clear, which maintains transparency. This structure slightly alter how light reflects or refracts, but the effect is minimal and usually undetectable.
Some laminated glass can be made with tinted or colored interlayers. This is for decorative or extra UV protection purposes, which can change its appearance.
Expert’s Advice
Standard clear laminated glass blends seamlessly with regular glass, providing enhanced safety, noise reduction, and UV filtering without compromising the look. However, our fitters advise that you use the same specification if the glass is side by side. This is as a slight shade can sometimes be noticed when placing laminate next to regular glazing.
