Improving your door's appearance and functionality.

Door handle replacements can be an impactful improvement to both the function and appearance of your aluminium or uPVC doors. Whether your current door handle is not turning, broken or simply unattractive, our fitters will change it. Changing handles will refresh the look of the door while maintaining security and ease of use.

Types of Door Handles

Before we look into the door handle replacement process, it’s essential to understand the different types of door handles available. This is because selecting the correct style will ensure that your new handle fits and functions correctly.

Lever Lever Handles:

Lever handles are a popular choice for both interior and exterior doors. They consist of a long handle attached to a spindle that rotates to open the door. Moreover, they are easy to use and our experts fit them in various styles, from modern to traditional.

Lever Pad Handles:

Our fitter always install the pad handle on the outside of the door and it is usually offset to the inner lever handle. This means that the normal lever on the inside and the pad on the outside act independently from each other using 2 spindles.

In conclusion, the main advantage with the door closed is that the pad will not open the door without the key.

Type A Handles:

Our technicians identify Type A handles by the screw holes. Typically, one screw is at the bottom and the other just below the handle. These are suitable for certain Euro multi point locks.

Type B Handles:

Our technicians identify Type B handles by the 2 screwholes at either end of the handles. These, including Type A handles, are usually sprung uPVC door handles that come with spring cassettes installed in the backplate. When our fitter releases the lever, these springs bring the handle to the perfect horizontal position.

FAQs

When it comes to old uPVC doors or frames, it is possible that there could be warping or damage to the door. This could affect how we fit a new handle. Our professional fitters can assess the door to determine if the handle can be replaced on your door, or conclude if the entire door will need to be replaced instead.

Yes, it does matter which handle is on a door. The type of handle we install affects both functionality and security, especially depending on what purpose the door is used for.

Factors such as door thickness, usage frequency, and accessibility requirements should be considered to ensure the handle is suitable for the specific door and its purpose.

Moreover, certain locking mechanisms can only allow particular models of handles to be fitted, so it is best that we check what is compatible for your door.

Whether you should replace the entire uPVC door or just the handle depends on the condition of both. If the door is in good shape but the handle is outdated or damaged, it is a cost effective option for us to replace just the handle.

However, if the door is buckled, warped, damaged, or no longer provides adequate insulation or security, we recommend replacing the entire door may be the better option than a replacement handle.

In conclusion, new uPVC or composite doors offer improved energy efficiency, higher security, and overall appearance, making them a worthwhile investment if the door itself is compromised. Ultimately, the choice depends on the door’s overall condition and your specific needs.
