Our fitting specialists will replace window hinges for uPVC, timber and aluminium frames. Many hinges are changeable with our universal hinge types, including friction stay hinges, egress fire escape hinges and restrictor hinges.
We can fix issues where you may have draught coming in from the window opener. This usually points to an issue with a defective window hinge. After establishing the problem we can replace with new pair of friction stay hinges. Or it may be egress hinges type replacement. This is usually where a fire escape is necessary.
In Brierfield homes and commercial properties, we can repair stiff double glazed hinges. When the window sash is stiff to open, it is more than likely that the window hinges need replacing. Typically, stiff window hinges are found in kitchens and bathrooms where they are exposed to excessive level of moisture. This moisture will progressively seize up hinges.
Another cause for stiff double glazed hinges can be bent hinges. Bent window hinges do not allow the moving mechanism to slide as it should. It can lead to catching on itself or the sash which will restrict its movement. Yet, this is not always repairable due to the positioning of the mechanisms. We would recommend replacing it with new hinges for your property in Brierfield.
Anyhow, there are 3 main window hinges type. The first one are the common friction stay hinges which are used particulary for uPVC double glazed windows. These are the standard types that open fairly wide and can be specified as side hung or top hung.
Egress fire escape hinges are the second version that open wider. With a wider opening, a person is able to crawl through in a fire or an emergency. Egress hinges are more suitable for side opening windows, but can be fitted as top hung where it meets certain criteria.
The third restrictor hinge option is a good choice with child security in mind. Restrictor hinges are designed to open and lock a small distance from the closed position. Yet, a discreet button can activate the window to open fully without restriction. These can be installed as top hung or side hung.
