A failed double glazed unit is distinguished by the cloudy or misty looking glazing. This is caused by the condensation building up in between the panes. In your Foulridge property, trying to wipe this area of the moisture on the window will not clear as it is on the inside of the glass.
Failed seals for misty glass are usually mentioned in regards to the sealant compound of a double glazed unit, also known as hotmelt. It firmly bonds the glass around the edges of the double glazing to create an airtight unit. Properties of the sealing compound can change over time due to the weather climate, leading to a gap created in the seal. With this gap, it becomes the passage for moisture to enter and gradually develop into condensation inside the glass.
